What is Rotary All About?

Goals

Without planning and setting goals, we just respond to situations as they come up, which gives us a feeling that life is full of nothing but situations.

Getting somewhere in life starts by -

Knowing where we are (awareness).
Knowing what we want (a goal).
Having a plan for how to get there (a strategy).

Dreams

We must all respond and participate in the ideas and dreams of others. But, if we want to reach the desires of our lives, we must also have ideas and dreams of our own and start planning on how we will bring them into reality.

In order to have our dreams come true, we need to do these four things:

Write out our dreams (clarity).
Write out what it will cost (evaluation).
Write out our goals and strategies (plan).
Review them regularly (focus).

Rotary is a group of global business and professional leaders providing humanitarian service, encouraging high ethical standards and helping to build goodwill and peace in the world.

Rotary membership represents a community cross-section of men and women meeting weekly. All Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious and open to all cultures, races and creeds.

Membership provides an opportunity to: Connect with your community. Work with others in addressing local needs. Interact with others in your community; assist with RI's international humanitarian service efforts, establish contacts with an international network of professionals. Develop leadership skills. Involve family in promoting service efforts.

Rotary builds understanding through international scholarships, exchange programs, and humanitarian grants. In 2002, Rotary launched the Rotary Centers for International Studies in peace and conflict resolution, an innovative program designed to educate tomorrow's peacemakers. Hosted at seven leading universities around the globe, the program funds 70 World Peace Scholars each year for graduate studies in international relations, conflict studies, and negotiation providing promising leaders the tools to further the cause of peace.

Some 35,000 students from 110 countries have also studied abroad since 1947 as Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars. Rotary's Group Study Exchange has helped more than 45,000 young professionals explore their career fields in other countries. And, each year some 8,000 secondary-school students experience life in another country through Rotary's Youth Exchange program.

ROTARY REMINDER: "Object of Rotary"

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster;

FIRST, the developement of acquaintance as an opportunity for service,

SECOND, high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarians occupation as an opportunity to serve society,

THIRD, the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarians personal, business and community life,

FOURTH, the advancement of international, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service".

Rotary FYI:
The "Avenues of Service" were developed int he 1920's to clarify the "Object of Rotary".
"Club Service" strengthens fellowship and ensures effective functioning of the club.
"Vocational Service" encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and practice high ethical standards.
"Community Service" covers the projects and activities of the club to improve community life.
" International Service" expands humanitarian reach around the globe and promotes world understanding and peace.

Rotary meeting at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Come and join us, we will have " PattiCakes Famous Apple Turnovers" for our breakfast treat!

Business will include signup list to judge or coach for the "Pine Needle Festival" in March, reminder that Rotary Community Grants applications are due next Wednesday and updates on club fundraiser events.

A "Festival Planning" committee has met twice and has specific recommendations for the club that will be reviewed and the Golf Tournament get closer and closer.

One of our past 'grants' groups, Fresno County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Mountaineering Team will present a program about the unique service they provide to our rural and remote community.

The February Board of Directors meeting will move to March1 to review and award the Community Grants applications.
